Model Overview

The Mondeo serves as Changan Ford's core D-segment sedan, taking its name from the French word "Monde" to symbolise elegance and a global outlook. Since entering local production in 2004, the Mondeo has established a strong customer base in China's D-segment market. At present, the Mondeo line-up is spearheaded by the 2026 facelift model, which was launched on 4 December 2025. The updated range comprises six variants across three powertrain choices: 1.5T petrol, 2.0T petrol, and 1.5T hybrid, with official recommended retail prices ranging from RM149,800 to RM198,800. On 13 June 2026, the Mondeo Sport (crossover fastback variant) made its official debut at the Chongqing Auto Show, priced between RM209,800 and RM229,800. As a vital sales pillar for Changan Ford, the Mondeo carries the key responsibility of maintaining the brand's presence in the sedan segment.
Design Language
The 2026 Mondeo retains Ford's signature "Progressive Energy in Strength" design philosophy. The front fascia discards the previous split-headlamp layout in favour of sleek, integrated LED headlamps housing distinctive three-segment daytime running light (DRL) signatures. An enlarged octagonal front grille features parametric chrome scales and comes equipped with active grille shutters. Along the sides, the sedan features a sleek fastback silhouette, complemented by flush pop-out door handles and a sharp, continuous character line running from front to rear. The rear retains the full-width LED tail light cluster with revised internal graphics, while the rear bumper is finished in full black alongside a concealed exhaust setup. New exterior colour options for 2026 include "Chixia Red" and "Canghai Blue". Meanwhile, the Mondeo Sport sports a unique five-door crossover bodystyle with a 168 mm ground clearance, seamlessly blending a sleek coupé stance with enhanced ground clearance.
In terms of dimensions, the 2026 Mondeo measures 4,935 mm long, 1,875 mm wide, and 1,500 mm tall, riding on a 2,945 mm wheelbase. The Mondeo Sport comes in at 4,920 × 1,920 × 1,600 mm, sharing the identical 2,945 mm wheelbase. This 2,945 mm wheelbase stretches roughly 115 mm longer than key rivals like the Honda Accord, offering close to a full metre of rear legroom. Inside, mid-to-high spec variants are equipped with a massive 1.1-metre continuous display panel comprising a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 27-inch 4K touchscreen infotainment system. Physical scroll dials and quick-access buttons for fan speed and climate control have been added beneath the centre air-conditioning vents, paired with a rotary electronic gear selector. The floating centre console also gains a dedicated wireless smartphone charging pad.
Powertrain and Performance
The 2026 Mondeo is offered with three powertrain options; all pure petrol variants are mated to an 8-speed torque-converter automatic transmission (8AT), while the hybrid variant employs an E-CVT electronic continuously variable transmission.
1.5T Petrol: Available in two states of tune producing 190 PS/140 kW and 196 PS/144 kW, both generating a peak torque of 263 Nm.
2.0T Petrol: Powered by the fifth-generation 2.0T EcoBoost twin-scroll turbocharged engine, churning out 261 PS (192 kW) and 408 Nm of torque. The century sprint from 0-100 km/h is completed in the six-second range. The engine incorporates twin-scroll turbocharging to reduce exhaust pulse interference and an integrated exhaust manifold for quicker warm-ups, delivering performance figures that surpass the high-output BMW B48 2.0T unit. The entire petrol range is compatible with RON 92 fuel.
1.5T Hybrid: Pairs a 1.5T petrol engine (190 PS) with a 96 kW permanent magnet synchronous electric motor to deliver a combined system output of 288 PS. Fuel consumption on the WLTC cycle is rated as low as 4.86 L/100 km.
The Mondeo Sport is equipped with an E-Hybrid 2.0T EcoBoost powertrain combining a 2.0T turbo engine with an electric motor to generate a total system output of 308 PS. Real-world testing clocks its 0-100 km/h acceleration well into the five-second bracket. It delivers an overall WLTC range of up to 915 km, with extra-urban fuel economy dropping to just 4.64 L/100 km.
Chassis and Handling
Underpinned by Ford's global C2 platform, the Mondeo shares its architecture with the Lincoln Z. The suspension setup features front MacPherson struts and a rear multi-link independent arrangement. The front lower control arms and steering knuckles are forged from aluminium alloy with weight-reducing cutouts, effectively lowering unsprung weight to sharpen steering response and handling agility. At the rear, an E-type multi-link suspension utilizes L-shaped trailing arms with elevated body mounting points, utilizing larger bushings to effectively absorb road imperfections. Full underbody aerodynamic panelling optimizes airflow underneath the car. The chassis setup strikes a well-judged balance between dynamic handling and long-distance ride comfort. Power is sent exclusively to the tarmac via a front-engine, front-wheel-drive (FWD) layout.
Cabin and Equipment
The intelligent digital cabin represents a major highlight of the 2026 Mondeo. From the Shuya variant upwards, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 automotive-grade chipset comes as standard, driving the latest-generation SYNC+ infotainment operating system. The system supports AutoNavi satellite navigation, wireless Apple CarPlay connectivity, and over-the-air (OTA) software updates. The fourth-generation Voice Assistant (VA 4.0) integrates large language models (LLM) to deliver seamless continuous conversation, contextual comprehension, and parallel multi-command execution. On the Mondeo Sport, the massive 1.1-metre 4K display features split-screen capabilities, enabling the front passenger to enjoy multimedia entertainment without distracting driver navigation.
On the comfort and convenience front, a 540° panoramic surround-view monitor (incorporating a transparent chassis view) is standard across the entire range. The range-topping Zhizun variant adds premium appointments such as a heated steering wheel, driver's seat memory, a front wireless charging pad, and a 10-speaker B&O premium audio system. The 2.0T models also include ventilated and heated front seats. Boot capacity stands at 520 litres in standard configuration and expands up to 1,550 litres with the rear bench folded flat. Boot space in the Mondeo Sport offers flexible utility, expanding from 527 litres to 1,550 litres.
Safety and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS)
In terms of structural safety, the Mondeo utilizes a robust safety cage design. High-strength steel rated at 600 MPa and above makes up 53% of the vehicle body, with the A-pillars engineered from a three-layer composite structure using 1,700 MPa Saab cold-quenched martensitic steel, while the B-pillars feature dual-layer hot-stamped 1,500 MPa ultra-high-strength steel.
For active safety, the 2026 Mondeo comes standard with Level 2 semi-autonomous driving capabilities across all variants via the integrated Ford Co-Pilot 360™ active safety suite. Key features include Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane Centring Assist (LCA), Traffic Jam Assist / Co-Pilot Navigation Assist, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) with pedestrian detection, and Evasive Steering Assist (ESA). Other standard aids include Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), and Forward Collision Warning (FCW). The intelligent voice assistant on the Mondeo Sport supports contextual dialogue, eliminating the need for constant wake-up commands.
Market Performance and Industry Verdict
The Mondeo remains Changan Ford's best-selling model, accounting for roughly half of the joint venture's total sales volume. Total sales in 2025 stood at approximately 47,000 units. However, sales momentum has softened going into 2026, recording 3,453 units in January, 2,261 units in February, 2,375 units in March, and falling to 1,445 units in May. Cumulative deliveries for the first half of 2026 have yet to break the 10,000-unit mark. In contrast, segment rivals like the Volkswagen Passat and Toyota Camry continue to record monthly volumes exceeding 20,000 units and 17,000 units respectively, relegating the Mondeo to the lower-middle tier of the D-segment market.
Automotive media reviews highlight that the 2026 Mondeo delivers impressive product substance across powertrain performance (261 PS 2.0T + 8AT), smart cabin technology (Snapdragon 8155 chip + 27-inch 4K display), and lightweight chassis construction (aluminium suspension components). Its primary selling points centre on its class-leading powertrain outputs, standard Level 2 ADAS suite across the range, and lower running costs with RON 92 petrol compatibility. Nevertheless, softening brand equity and intense market competition have left the model facing a classic dilemma of "strong product merits struggling to translate into showroom sales". The addition of the Mondeo Sport, packing a potent 308 PS hybrid setup and sub-six-second acceleration, attempts to carve out a differentiated lifestyle niche in the RM200,000 price bracket. As an established D-segment nameplate with decades of heritage in China, the Mondeo relies on consistent product refinements to hold its ground in an increasingly competitive executive sedan market.
